Secondly, some ag tractors had turbos fitted and seemed to run O. I had the privilege to operate one in the early '80 with only hours on the clock from new in but compared to modern machinery, you can't!

Down here they are becoming a collectors machine so pay a premium for them. I would stick with a power shift machine for ease of operation. I'll leave it with you, Nelson. AnimalOct 16, Joined: Sep 1, Messages: Location: Australia.

RustedOct 16, A little off topic, but I'm wondering why there are so many negative comments about pony motors? To me, they seem like the perfect way to start a big cold diesel. Is the pony motor itself hard to start? Some day I would like to own a dozer with a pony motor just because the concept is so cool but I certainly don't want another headache. OldandWornOct 16, Thanks for your input Animal NelsonI must admit I'm having some pretty hefty reservations, at least with this particular 9U, NOT because it isn't a great dozer, but due to the fact the owner doesn't seem to even know his own machine, which makes me wonder what kind of condition it's "really" in.

He has "no idea" how many hours are on it, or what all has been done to it. From what I've read here, he doesn't even seem to know how to operate it properly, since he says flat out it's a "pedal steer"! On top of that, I'm not sure of the correct "terminology", and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe this dozer has the "pump up" or "automatic" track adjusters?!?!? Don't these older 9U's have like a "manual threaded type" track adjuster of some sort, that is kind of a pain in the arse??

I guess what I'm getting at is, I don't want to get the dozer and then find out that it's going to need a lot of work, plus, I just read an older post that talked about a rather worrisome, and "famous" problem these older D6's had with busting, or breaking, the intermediate shafts, as well as problems with the steering clutches locking up, etc.

I DO realize ANY "used" dozer could have potential problems, however, I am looking at some other tractors that I at least know a LOT more "history" about, such as what's been done to them, how many hours they have, etc.

It may wind up being a "moot" point anyway, as he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to get me the rest of the info, pics, and video, he said he would. Onward and upward, the saga continues, if nothing else I'm sure learning a LOT from you all, and I really appreciate it! It doesn't help that I'm disabled, because I wouldn't have to be so darn "picky", but that's the way it is, I just gotta live with it! I wish everyone a great day, and thank you all!Back home to Tractorparts.

Our track was originally 51 sections, one section was cut on removal of track amateurs! Other models use fewer number of sections per side. The links have a 6" pitch. Check what you are doing by verifying link numbers and refer to your parts manuals for verification. We currently show two options above for your D2 track needs. This is the late style track, much heavier duty that originally designed for the early TD14's. As you can see from the close up picture, they are in excellent condition.

It is the same pitch, will fit into the same dimensioned roller flanges and holds up well. The only difference we can note is that the bushings on the above track have a slightly smaller OD. This means that while they will work for the standard TD15B track, without the need for changing sprockets, they will not hold up as long as the track designed for the 15B's. There are 38 sections per side with 22 inch pads. Pins and bushings have been recently turned and show to have very little time on them since the turn.

Link part numbers are 7H and 7H which, when new would have measured 4. Pads have been re-grousered and plates are solid, not bending on corners or edges. These particular track are in excellent condition. They were manufactured by Simmel. Like Berco, Trek, and aftermarket manufacturers, they often made the links beefier than original. These track links, when supplied by Allis Chalmers were originally 4. Pins and bushings are excellent with no measurable stretch or internal pin and bushing wear.

They are 9 inch pitch He only needed one side, so we pulled one from an HD21A that he liked and he put it on his excavator. The width of his rails fit his roller flanges perfectly and he was back at work, giving his H several more production years. The early D6 crawlers used 6. The 6. The D5 machines used the 6. Link numbers are very important. Individual parts, like links or pads directly interchange between the JD and the 6.

Determining which pitch you have is important. Different sprockets are required for different pitch track.

If your sprockets are good, or you want to rebuild them and re-use them, be sure that the tracks you are buying are compatible with your sprockets. We show, above in the picture gallery, 3 sides of 6. The single side available is the best of the 3 sets. We also show the 60A track groups, which are also 6. A 40 section side of track links corresponds with the link assembly part number of 2S This track was also used on the Cat track loader model 20A ser 20A which used 45 sections of the same track and the earlier 6 Traxcavator model 10A.When I removed the oil pan to get all the swamp mud from the bottom of the pan, I was amazed at how the bottom of the engine had no rust what so ever.

The crank and connecting rods were like brand new and the connecting rods were not bent. Even the fuel tank was full of mud since fuel is lighter than water. When the fuel floated out of the fuel tank, water and mud replaced the space where the fuel was. So what a time I had trying to get the mud out of the fuel tank. I ended up cutting holes in the fuel tank to get the mud out. The fuel tank was shiny clean as if there was no mud at all or had ever been in there.

This mud didn't rust the tank but helped preserve it. Why not just go and terrorize the town with a cat that spent 3 years under water! Caterpillar designed the hood sheet metal to be wide at the radiator, then narrow down at the operator area, so that the operator could see forward.
